D-Day Parade
The unit participated in the 531st fete and 10th Annual Open Air Service in the Park over the weekend of 6-8 June. Also in attendance were various representatives from forces associations as well as a Colour Party from the US Navy. (photos in Gallery)
This was also a training weekend and the cadets that attended made full use of the sunny weather to try out different waterborne activities.
Bovington Tank Museum Visit
Exmouth’s Marine Cadet Detachment went “Army” for the day on a visit to The Royal Armored Corps Museum at Bovington in Dorset.
The Cadets were given a full tour from the Museum’s education officer Chris, including a WW1 trench experience, being dressed in full WW1 uniform, Crewing a WW1 Mark 4 tank (a rare treat) and being let loose on a Chieftain ARV.
The visit traced the history of the Tank from the First World War to the present day and helped the Cadets to put their Corps history into context.
Anyone interested in this hugely enjoyable educational experience can contact ChrisC@tankmuseum.org.uk for details.
May 2008
Four of the Marine Cadets completed their recruit training and were presented with their berets, this is an historical moment as these are the first to do so and no-one can take that away from them.
9 cadets (5 Sea Cadets and 4 Marine Cadets) had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Navy Mine Hunter HMS Middleton (photos in the Gallery), they were greeted by the Coxswain who treated the visiting party to an in-depth tour of the ship, this included observing a fire exercise by the duty crew, visiting the bridge and sitting in the Captains Chair(with his permission), seeing the ops room and seeing the latest technology helping to find and destroy mines.
April 2008
The detachment saw its tenth recruit join, so numbers are growing nicely. The detachment did its first visit to Woodbury Common and the recruits enjoyed a taste of Bivvy building and some tactics training.
January 2008
January 1st saw the start of the Marine Cadet Detachment in Exmouth Sea Cadet Unit, Camperdown Terrace. After a slow start and a visit to a local school we now have 4 recruits, who will, within a few weeks have their first assessment to get on that first rung of the promotion ladder. Hopefully we will have more interested parties so we can boost the strength of the detachment up to at least a section strength (8 men).We look forward to the lighter evenings so some outside training can take place and perhaps even visits to Woodbury Common to partake in some serious crawling through the bushes.
